There was #NoTurningBack on Saturday night as busloads of football enthusiasts lined up in Melbourne’s Federation Square awaiting their turn to board the exclusive shuttles. The eager supporters were then escorted to a secret location – A converted aeroplane hangar at Essendon Airport.
The hangar had everything you would expect from an underground football tournament including DJ, orchestra, enclosed competition field, PlayStations, VR headsets, boot testing and all topped off with stage lighting and smoke machines.
Fans were greeted at the doors with their complimentary tickets to the Socceroos v Brazil game, a Nike scarf and were all pleasently surprised to find the entire event catered for courtesy of Nandos.
The excitement peaked when Fox Sports commentators Tara Rushton and Adam Peacock announced the surprise guests – none other than Brazil’s finest Coutinho, Fernandinho, Costa and Sandro.
As fans and players suddenly realise what is going on around them, the calm turns into chaos! Young ballers jumping on top of one another for space and a chance to see, their screams are ear piercing and hundreds of phone screens light up the room as everyone tries to record their piece of history.
The madness continued not long after with an announcement of another surprise arrival, their very own Green and Gold heroes Socceroos Mat Ryan, Robbie Kruse, Tomi Juric, Trent Sainsbury, Aaron Mooy, Mathew Leckie and Tom Rogic.
Nike spared absolutely no expense for this once in a lifetime event and we’re thrilled to have been a part of it.
